Most people would answer this question with a resounding NO! Statistically, 23,000 people are murdered in the US annually. In addition, over 50,000 people commit suicide. It should be noted that this is SELF murder according to God's Word, which brings the subtotal to around 73,000 actual murders per year. If you include child sacrifices of 650,000 (abortions), the new subtotal balloons to almost ¾ of a million people physically murdered in the US annually. This would make murder the number one cause of death in the US, and not cancer or heart disease as our own government and society would tell us.
Child sacrifices have been performed since biblical times, as stated in Leviticus 20:2, “You shall also say to the sons of Israel: Any man from the sons of Israel or from the aliens sojourning in Israel who gives any of his offspring to Molech (Canaanite deity), shall surely be put to death; the people of the land shall stone him with stones.” The consequence of engaging in any form of child sacrifices was death. Can you imagine if the death penalty was levied against the parents of unborn children today? I find it interesting that many of the pregnant mothers who go and have an abortion are always looked at as victims by the Pro-Life Movement and other “moral” institutions, while the doctor who performs the abortion is called the actual murderer. The doctor is rightfully a murderer in God's eyes, but the pregnant mother and father who made the decision to abort a child are also murderers. If you include the doctor and staff at the abortion clinic, as well as the mother and father of the aborted child, you now have millions of people who have committed murder in the US annually. People will try to justify their wickedness and selfishness by trying to redefine “when does life really begin for this unborn child?” Worse yet, many will claim it is “my choice” and “my body,” when the truth is that this child is an inconvenience and it reveals the sin of their prideful heart and wanting to be their own god. God's Word is very clear when life begins, as stated in Jeremiah 1:5, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.” Most people detest this verse because it authoritatively establishes God's sovereignty and absolute control over all events in time.
The first recorded murder in history was when Cain killed his brother, Abel. Genesis 4:8, “ And it came about when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.” Abel's offering to the Lord was better than Cain's offering. Hence Cain was envious of his brother Abel and angry with the Lord Himself for not accepting his offering. Envy and anger without just or good cause are gateways to murder, as we see all too often in our world today. Anger and hatred without cause, or any good cause, is murder according to the Bible. Matthew 5:21-22, “...the ancients were told... 'Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.' But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, 'You good-for-nothing,' shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, 'You fool shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell'.”
Let us now expand murder to include malice, false accusations, personal grudges, those who gossip maliciously, rioting, looting and whose intent is to cause injury or harm to another. Exodus 23:1-2 summarizes malicious speech and I quote, “You shall not bear a false report; do not join your hand with a wicked man to be a malicious witness. You shall not follow the masses in doing evil, nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to turn aside after a multitude in order to pervert justice.” Refer to 1 John 9-10, which further supports those who unjustly gossip and slander others. If this applies to you and me, the only reason we have not actually murdered someone is because of God's restraining spirit. After reading thus far, do you think you still are not guilty of murder according to God's Word?
